Soulajar

Neo-Funk & Soul-jazz out of Bakersfield, CA

Soulajar has left no doubt about what they do best - it’s built right into their name. Comprised of 8 humble young artists with diverse influences and a shared love of stretching musical boundaries, Soulajar melds varying styles of jazz, R&B, hip hop, and soul to form an undeniably unique flavor of song-craft.

Their journey began in 2002 when drummer Brian Boozer and guitarist Ryan Fergon were introduced; bassist Greg Bettis joined just a year later. What started as a 4-piece group with revolving singers has led the band to where they are today – an onstage lineup of 8 musicians that has remained faithfully consistent.

By 2009, Soulajar’s lineup was solidified in collaboration with vocalist Jim Ranger, keyboardist Daniel Hardy, organist Eric Barefield, saxophonist Chris Nguyen, and trumpeter Brent Williams.

PRESS QUOTES:

“…wet with enough sweat to make it greasy, yet pretty damn polished for a young band. And when they turn the lights down low, Soulajar knows how to lay it on as smooth and buttery as the Rev. Al Green – no lie.” Brian Robbins – jambands.com
